Due to the events of September 11, 2001, the US government, and specifically, the Department of Home land Security has placed a greater emphasis on guarding the US against acts of terrorism. To this end the US Customs & Border Protection developed the joint government-business initiative known as the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism or C-TPAT.
